Lata Mangeshkar started her music career in the year 1942 and has now spent over seven decades in the industry. It is known that she has sung for thousands of films and has credit for singing in a total of 36 Indian languages as well as foreign languages. She has been credited with India's most renowned award, The Dadasaheb Phalke award, in the year 1989.
Childhood life of Lata Mangeshkar
Lata Mangeshkar was born in Indore Central province which is now in Madhya Pradesh of India in the year 1929 (28 September). She is the eldest child of her parents, father Deenanath Mangeshkar and mother Shevanti Mangeshkar.
Lata Mangeshkar‘s father was a famous Marathi theatre actor, musician and also a vocalist. His father belongs to a small town in Goa called Mangeshkar and this is the reason why he changed his surname from Haridkar to Mangeshkar. Did you know that Lata Mangeshkar's birth name was not Lata but Hema? Father changed her name to Lata later after being inspired by a character in one of his plays.
